Petrović voted RC Strasbourg Player of the Year, ahead of Andrey Santos

Goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović has been voted RC Strasbourg’s Player of the Year, beating out fellow Chelsea loanee Andrey Santos in what is perhaps a surprising outcome. Former Chelsea prospect Diego Moreira finished third after joining our sister club on a permanent transfer last summer.

Both Petrović and Santos are expected to return to Chelsea this offseason and (hopefully) get a real shot at earning a spot in the team for next season. Santos, having recently turned 21, set a new career high with 10 goals from midfield while Petrović has been good enough to earn a nomination for Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Season as well.

Unfortunately for (Ligue 1 Manager of the Season) Liam Rosenior’s boys, RCSA suffered a shock defeat against Le Havre at home today — just a week after suffering a shock defeat against lowly Angers. Le Havre were fighting for their top division lives; RCSA needed a point to ensure European football. Alas, the visitors proved the more desperate, and won it with a late penalty, ensuring their survival by a point and knocking Strasbourg out of Europe**\***. Strasbourg, though only four point behind third-place Monaco, finish just seventh, on goal difference. Ouch.

**\***Strasbourg could yet qualify for the UEFA Conference League if PSG win the French Cup (Lyon would then go to the Europa League qualifiers and RCSA would get their Conference League spot.) PSG play Reims in the Cup final next weekend. Incidentally, Le Havre’s win at Strasbourg today condemned Reims to relegation from the top division.
