Fans slam Robert Griffin III over his controversial take on Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese beef

Several fans were not on board with Robert Griffin III’s stance on the recent altercation between Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

Clark and Reese got into it in the second half of their WNBA season-opening matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. Reese took offense after taking a flagrant foul from Clark, which led to a heated exchange that referees had to contain (video here).

The Fever ran away with the contest, outscoring the Sky 37-16 after the flagrant foul to cruise to a 93-58 victory. During her postgame interview, Clark appeared to throw some shade at Reese over the latter’s reaction to what Caitlin called a “good take foul.”

Griffin weighed in shortly after the game. The former NFL quarterback argued that the on-court exchange was proof that Reese “hates” Clark.

“After watching Caitlin Clark’s flagrant foul on Angel Reese and the aftermath, there is no way Angel Reese can continue the lie that she doesn’t dislike Caitlin Clark,” wrote Griffin. “I know what hatred looks like. Angel Reese HATES Caitlin Clark. Not some basketball rivalry hate either. Hate.”

Fans were not all that receptive to Griffin’s take, with many responding to the former QB on X.

A Black woman gets flagrant foul and dragged online, and the Black man in the room calls her hateful? You’re not protecting women. You’re protecting the system that profits off her pain.

That was pretty flagrant and aggressive, I like Clark but that was uncalled for, that’s not basketball

So Clark commits the flagrant which isn’t that crazy but Angel’s reaction is what proves she hates her? Not the foul or the play but just her being upset? That’s the line for hate now?

Clark took a similar shot from Reese during a Fever-Sky game last year that was also called for a flagrant foul.

While both players have spoken highly of one another in the past, it’s clear that the animosity between the two players remains strong since their rivalry began in college.

Clark tallied a 20-10-10 triple-double in the season debut win over Reese’s Sky. The Fever star became the fastest player to record three career triple-doubles in WNBA history. Reese led her team with 12 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
