Arsenal receive Gyokeres and Sesko transfer updates amid £144m dilemma

Arsenal have been sent clear transfer updates on Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko after very differing ends to their seasons at RB Leipzig and Sporting CP, respectively.

With the summer trading period just a few weeks away from opening, a number of big decisions will need to be made by Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta. The biggest of those looks set to come in attack with the addition of a striker desperately needed.

Despite Arteta's favoured signing being Alexander Isak, Gyokeres and Sesko are likely to be the top two realistic candidates with Newcastle on the brink of Champions League qualification.

Sporting will also feature in Europe's top competition next season having won the Portuguese League title on Saturday. A 2-0 win over Vitoria, with Gyokeres on target for the 53rd time in all competitions, saw them remain top while Benfica were forced to settle for a point away at Braga.

Following their historic triumph, the 26-year-old was asked about his future and unsurprisingly, he kept his cards very close to his chest.

"It's football, I'm still here," he told the Portuguese broadcaster Sport.TV, as per Record. "I don't know what's going to happen. Nobody can predict the future."

Even with those comments and the fact Sporting still have a cup final to play, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote that an exit is being prepared with a £60million move expected to happen.

As for Sesko and Leipzig, a disappointing season ended with a limp as they lost 3-2 at home to Stuttgart and that result saw them finish seventh and outside any European qualification spot for the first time in eight years.

Perhaps hinting at his future, Leipzig head coach Marco Rose dropped Sesko to the bench and only brought him on with a few minutes to play after Yussuf Poulsen, who had come on earlier in the second half, picked up an injury.

Almost immediately after the full-time whistle went, Romano revealed there is also an expectation that he will depart his current club this summer with Xavi Simons set leave as well. Reports initially claimed that could be for £60million but his asking price has now increased to £86million.

The decision for Arsenal now is which striker to sign with their certainly positives for both. Sesko is younger and likely has a higher ceiling but based on his staggering goal-record, Gyokeres seems to be the one that could make an immediate impact.

Other signings may impact that big call with the club's transfer budget likely to be completely used. £51million of that will be for Martin Zubimendi as there is an agreement in principle for him to join from Real Sociedad.

In addition to that, football.london understands that Arteta would also like to sign a wide forward, defender and back-up goalkeeper.
