Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 5/18: At Least Deshaun Watson is Living His Best Life

OBR Newswire Bloviation Header

Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

Everyone loves quarterbacks!! The NFL's most important position is always the subject of media blather.

This is true even when the subject is a seemingly failed quarterback who singularly destroyed three years of Cleveland Browns history. He got a big-ass back tattoo. That's nifty. Seeing that glorious back tattoo almost compensates for the incredibly destructive impact his inability to play at a high level and off-field issues had on the Browns, their fanbase, and operations like the OBR.

Watson was enough to make Browns fans dial out most of 2024. Will his potential replacements, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, undo some of the damage?

It's way too early to tell, but at least there is some fun to be had in watching the four-quarterback battle come into view in 2025. While Browns fans have their hopes spring up anew this year, they bring with them the deserved cynicism that comes with watching quarterback after quarterback fail to bring them glory.

Even if this crop doesn't, Arch Manning is lurking out there, ready to play at a high level for Texas this year (or not) and then declare for the draft in 2026 (or not). So, the fun will last for a while.

As of right now, though, everything is hunky-dory because the Browns QBs got to throw the ball around last week, an unpressured display that ended with media people irrationally debating who looked better according to whom. Shedeur Sanders, ignoring that he's a Cleveland Browns simply because he fell to the fifth, seems to be anxiously looking forward to the competition and just playing some football, which undoubtedly pleases Tom Brady.

Before you get too excited, remember that some guy from Bleacher Report gave the Browns a "B" for their off-season activity. We have been judged, and the outcome is "Above-Average". So, that's nice. But it could have been an "A", which would be good, or a "C", which would be bad. So, you know, it all boils down to a "B", so you can be a little enthusiastic, but not too enthusiastic. That's what the listicle says. You should not behave accordingly because we all take listicles seriously.

At any rate, there's more stuff on a very light news morning if you're feeling daring:

Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
