NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Since the retirement of Drew Brees, Saints starting quarterbacks amassed a paltry record of 31-37.
There was eight total QB’s in that time: Jameis Winston (6-4), Derek Carr (14-13), Taysom Hill (4-1), Spencer Rattler (0-6), Ian Book (0-1), Jake Haener (0-1), Trevor Siemian (1-3), and Andy Dalton (6-8).
With the drafting of Tyler Shough in the second round, the Black and Gold can possibly end the turnstile of quarterbacks in New Orleans.
Brees weighed in on the 25-year old rookie quarterback.
“I think he’s big, strong, tough, stand in there, deliver the ball, take shots. Had three season ending injuries in college. Honestly, a lot of similarities to Taysom Hill. Taysom Hill was one of these guys coming out of college who had spent four or five years in college, had had some major injuries, but whenever he played, he played really well, right? And obviously we know what he’s meant to the team, and when he came in to play the quarterback position he played it so well,” said Brees.
“We’ll see how this thing shakes out. I mean I’m not giving anybody the job right now, you know? I know we went out and drafted Tyler Shough in the second round, but I’m sure Haener and Rattler have something to say about that as well. Competitions bring out the best in everybody, so I’m sure Kellen is excited to mold these guys.”
