Team news: Rice returns against Newcastle

Mikel Arteta has made one change to his side for this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United, with Declan Rice returning to the team.

The midfielder, who is a nominee for the Premier League Player of the Season, missed last week’s 2-2 draw at Liverpool with a hip problem but replaces ex-Magpies Mikel Merino who is suspended following his red card at Anfield.

There is more good news in that Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have overcome injury scares to start our final game at Emirates Stadium this term, while Kai Havertz is a welcome sight on our bench.

The German makes his first appearance in a matchday squad since we last faced the Magpies in February when we exited the Carabao Cup at St James’ Park before suffering a hamstring injury in Dubai, but he could feature as a sub today as could Jorginho, who has recovered from an abdominal issue sustained against Brentford last month to be named amongst the replacements.

Meanwhile, William Saliba will make his 100th Premier League appearance and could break a club record in the process today.

Eddie Howe meanwhile has had to make one switch from the team that triumphed 2-0 against Chelsea a week ago to boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, and it’s a big one with 23-goal striker Alexander Isak missing with a groin problem.

The striker’s spot has been taken by Callum Wilson, while Sven Botman has recovered from a knee knock. Ex-Gunner Joe Willock has recovered from a thigh problem to return to the bench.
