Shilo Sanders did not inherit all of his father's traits.
But confidence? The kid's got that.
Unlike his more famous little brother, Shedeur, Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie safety Shilo Sanders had a football life before his renowned father, Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders, was his coach.
The background? Shilo committed to play at South Carolina out of high school but received offers from 14 other schools. In 2020, he played for coach Mike Bobo before Shane Beamer took over the program prior to the 2021 season.
The next four seasons, he played for his father and with his brother, splitting time at Jackson State and Colorado.
Now, he continues his football life, once again without the day-to-day guidance of his famous father ...
And it seems Shilo couldn't be more excited about it.
Unlike his brother, who was drafted in the fifth round earlier this month, Shilo wasn't selected in the NFL Draft process at all. He signed with the Bucs as an undrafted free agent, and there is indication that he upset about not hearing his name called.
“Well, my take on being disappointed in ‘lows’ -- it’s not really ‘low’ because you can’t change the path and you can’t really do anything about something that already happened,” Shilo said.
But there's something more here. ...
He added: "I always end up doing something great so I just know it’s going to happen and whatever’s happening currently is to learn or to grow from.”
Is that bragging? Not if he can back it up.
“The Bucs were the first team to call and they gave me a chance before anyone,” Sanders said. “So I’m forever grateful to the Buccaneers, and I’m just going to do everything I can to help this team win -- everything in my power to help this team win -- and that’s all I want.”
