As Myles Lewis-Skelly embarked on the post-match lap of appreciation, he would have been forgiven for pinching himself after the year he’s had.

It wasn’t that long ago that he was in the stands applauding his heroes’ efforts, but now he was taking in the acclaim from our supporters who have been thrilled by his breakout campaign that has seen him force his way into our side, play in huge European games against the best in the world, and score on his England debut.

And he was keen to thank all our Gooners for backing him all the way and showing him so much love as the 18-year-old continues to navigate life in our first-team.

Reflecting on his 2024/25 season, he said: “Honestly, it's been surreal. I've got to thank the team, thank the staff, thank the fans for keeping me healthy and helping me to keep going every game.

“The fans are everything in football. It's so important that they're here today and cheering us on. We're so grateful. We told the manager before we wanted to get a win in the last home game of the season to give the fans something to cheer about and be positive, so it's important that we won here today.”

Our 1-0 success against Newcastle United means that Myles will get the chance to test himself in the Champions League again next season, as we aim to improve on our final four finish in the competition and create more lifelong memories for our supporters.

He was delighted that we managed to secure that against tough opposition, bringing to an end a four-game wait for a home win and sending everyone home happy on their last visit to Emirates Stadium until August.“We’ve been conceding goals, so it's important that today we got a clean sheet and a good win,” he added.

“Our objective today was to secure Champions League football and push on for next season. We’ve got a group of players who truly believe that we can go all the way and that's what we want to do.”
