Ben Jacobs has been on the London is Blue podcast today, and rather than talk about transfers, he’s talking about shirt sponsors.
After another embarrassing season with a blank shirt, Chelsea secured Dubai property developers DAMAC for the final games of the season, and according to Jacobs there’s a chance that they stay on beyond this campaign.
So far it’s been a short term deal to promote a major investment from the corporation – but they’ve certainly got the money to work out a longer deal.
“Outside possibility” Chelsea sponsors stick around long term

“There’s an outside possibility that DAMAC say ‘ok, we quite like being your front of shirt sponsor’, sources that I speak to are not ruling DAMAC out of doing something front of shirt, or maybe training kit, in the long run,” the well connected journalist said.
“It’s not part of the existing deal, but they’re not categorially ruling that out either. It was more about having [short term] promotion because DAMAC have just announce this insane $1bn residential project that’s going to be Chelsea branded.”

Chelsea fans shouldn’t get too excited about long term deal just yet
It’s promising, but then again we remember hearing similar thing about Infinite Athlete when that deal was announced last year, and in the end they didn’t stick around.
For our part, we don’t really mind who sponsors us – all we care about is that they have a logo which looks nice on the shirt. And given DAMAC is just plain white text, it works with anything, so they’ve got our vote if they want to stick around.
Chelsea’s Champions League status for next season will of course be a major factor.
