Enzo Fernandez has revealed that he started Chelsea’s last two Premier League games, including the 1-0 victory over Manchester United, despite having conjunctivitis. Fernandez began to display symptoms before the 2-0 loss at Newcastle, but eventually featured in the two games.
The Argentine midfielder took to Instagram to share that he had played with a single eye, saying:
“(It was the) last match at home with this group that will give it all until the end, we have two finals left. Thank you to the fans for the support all the season. My first game playing with one eye.”
Despite the problems, he has been one of the key men this season so far with six goals and seven assists in 35 league games. Fernandez is regarded as a positive dressing room influence by manager Enzo Maresca, who will be hoping to get more from the Argentine midfielder next term.
