The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a concerted effort to address a lackluster defense from a season ago in this year's NFL Draft and walked away with a number of defensive players who could help boost the unit.
General manager Jason Licht also signed free agent pass rusher Haason Reddick with the hopes of adding some pressure to the quarterback in 2025.
But there is another move that Licht could make, according to Pro Football Focus, that could help even more.
PFF would like to see the Bucs sign free agent linebacker Von Miller.
"The Buccaneers did much to address their struggling pass rush this offseason, signing Haason Reddick in free agency and drafting David Walker and Elijah Roberts on Day 3. Yet, this group could still use some added pop. Von Miller could be a name to target as a pass-rush specialist.
"Across his three seasons in Buffalo, Miller posted a pair of 80.0-plus PFF pass-rushing grades while totaling 102 pressures and 14 sacks."
Miller was the No. 2 overall pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2011 NFL Draft and made eight Pro Bowls in his first nine years in the league. But he hasn't received that honor since 2019 and missed all of 2020 with an ankle injury.
When he was good, he was really good. He won the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2011, has been named First-Team All-Pro three times and Second-Team All-Pro four times.
He's tallied 581 total tackles with 446 solo and 171 for loss with 256 QB hits and 129.5 sacks. But his play has trailed off over the past five seasons as he's dealt with injuries.
He last played for the Buffalo Bills, where he signed a six-year, $120 million deal in 2022, but was released in March to create salary cap room for the team.
Miller is 36 now and projects as a situational helper. … and maybe he’s just the help the Bucs need.
