Before the New England Patriots drafted running back TreVeyon Henderson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, they had a decision to make.
Several teams inquired about trading for New England’s 38th pick, a scene in the first episode of “Forged in Foxborough” revealed.
The Chicago Bears were one of the teams interested, but the Patriots denied their offer. They also received an offer from an unidentified team that offered the 58th and 79th overall picks, as well as a third-round pick in the 2026 draft. The team is presumably the Houston Texans, given those were their picks.
The Patriots draft room deliberated more on the second offer than the first.
“Who do we feel better about at No. 69?” coach Mike Vrabel asked executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf. “You know what I mean? Maybe one of the receivers we like? Or Henderson?”
The Patriots ultimately stayed put and drafted Henderson with the 38th pick, while the Bears stayed at 39 and selected wide receiver Luther Burden III. The Texans, meanwhile, traded the 58th pick to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Henderson gives quarterback Drake Maye another weapon going into the 2025 season. During his time at Ohio State, Henderson never fumbled the ball and averaged 7.1 yards per carry.
