The Dallas Cowboys are hoping to get back into the playoffs during the upcoming 2025 NFL season. After missing the playoffs and compiling a 7-10 record last season, Jerry Jones decided to make some changes.
Mike McCarthy was the start of those changes. Jones let his head coach walk and replaced him with first-time NFL head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Plenty of roster moves were made as well. The Cowboys have a brand new backfield with Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders both being signed in agency. A big trade was worked out with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the draft as well that acquired George Pickens.
No one can say that Dallas hasn't made moves to improve throughout the offseason.
With that being said, training camp and preseason will decide who makes the roster and who heads elsewhere. One potential offseason addition might not make the roster.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has urged the Cowboys to make a surprising roster move. He thinks that Williams could be on his way out of town.
"The Dallas Cowboys signed running back Javonte Williams to a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason but could easily move on if he doesn't outperform Miles Sanders, Deuce Vaughn and/or rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah in training camp," Knox wrote. "Cutting Williams, who averaged just 3.7 yards per carry with the Broncos last season, would save Dallas $2 million in cap space."

Moving on from Williams would open up the backfield. Dallas would have Sanders, Jaydon Blue, Deuce Vaughn, and Phil Mafah as their running back room.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Denver Broncos, Williams played in 17 games. He carried the football 139 times for 513 yards and four touchdowns, while also catching 52 passes for 346 yards.
Williams could very well earn a spot on the roster, but he's on the watch list as a potential cut candidate for now.
