Matildas Abroad Review: Carpenter’s Lyon wins Division 1 Feminine Final; Galic’s FC Twente complete trebles

Chelsea secured a domestic treble over the weekend when they defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup final. The result means that they finished the domestic season undefeated.

Over in the Netherlands, Daniela Galic’s FC Twente achieved the same feat, coming back from two goals down to defeat AZ Alkmaar and finish on top of the league.

CommBank Matildas title winning feats didn’t stop there, however, as Ellie Carpenter’s Lyon defeated PSG in the Division 1 Feminine Final.

England

Chelsea defeated Manchester United 3-0 to lift the FA Cup trophy and complete a domestic treble. Sandy Baltimore scored a penalty just before the break, before Catarina Macario and Baltimore’s second secured the result in the final minutes of the match.

Sam Kerr remained unavailable for Chelsea as she continues to rehabilitate her ACL injury.

France

Lyon defeated PSG 3-0 to secure their 18th Division 1 Féminine title. Melchie Dumornay scored in first-half stoppage time before Kadidiatou Diani and a Wendie Renard penalty sealed the result. Ellie Carpenter started and played the full game at right-back for the French champions.

United States

The Portland Thorns defeated the Houston Dash 4-1 to move up to fourth on the table. Pietra Tordin, Payton Linnehan, Sam Coffey and Caiya Hanks were on the scoresheet for Portland as they raced to a large advantage. Kaitlyn Torpey started and played the full match at right-back while Mackenzie Arnold was unavailable due to injury.

A brace to Manaka Matsukubo meant that the North Carolina Courage defeated Chicago Stars 2-0. The Courage are now up to ninth, equal on points with Gotham in eighth, and are unbeaten in four. Cortnee Vine was a second-half substitute for the Courage.

Two first-half goals to Bay FC meant that they defeated Angel City 2-0. Despite more chances and more possession, Angel City were unable to find the breakthroughs they needed to walk away with the points. Alanna Kennedy started in midfield before being substituted off in the second half.

Sweden

Kristianstads DFF defeated Norrköping 4-1 and rise to fifth on the table. Amy Sayer helped to achieve the first goal, although Katla Tryggvadóttir was credited with getting the final touch. Beata Olsson, Alice Egnér and Mathilde Janzen were the other goalscorers for Kristianstads. Sayer started the match while Remy Siemsen was a second-half substitute.

Jada Whyman’s AIK Fotboll take on Djurgården midweek.

Netherlands

FC Twente completed a domestic treble in dramatic circumstances, coming from two goals down to defeat AZ Alkmaar 3-2 and win the league over PSV on goal difference. Jaimy Ravensbergen scored a hat-trick that saw the KNVB Women’s Cup champions and Supercup winners lift the league trophy. They are the first Dutch women’s team in history to win all three major domestic trophies in the same season. Daniela Galic was an unused substitute.

Denmark

FC Nordsjælland suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Danish Cup final, with Fortuna Hjørring winning 1-0 after extra time. It took a 117th-minute goal for substitute Risako Watanabe to separate the two sides. Winonah Heatley played all 120 minutes for Nordsjælland.
