“I’m Calling 2,000 Scrimmage Yards For You”

Chats with Bucky Irving.

Bucky Irving doesn’t like to target numbers, unless it’s numbers of wins.

In a recent interview with Kay Adams of FanDuel TV, Adams tried to pry from Bucky what his goal was this year for rushing after hitting 1,122 yards on the ground last year.

Bucky basically said he’s not worried about stats. Seemingly surprised Bucky would go there, Adams tried again.

“I’m calling 2,000 scrimmage yards for you, does that feel right?”

Bucky seemed flattered.

“Yeah, that feels right,” Bucky said. But he wouldn’t talk numbers anymore. Adams wanted to know why.

In a roundabout way, Bucky seemed to suggest the Bucs had bigger fish to fry than making sure he gets yards.

“No, I don’t really go out there and think like, ‘I gotta get this certain amount of yards [or] I gotta do this, this season,'” Bucky said. “I pretty much just live in the moment.

“Whatever I gotta do to help my team, and we come out with a win, I’m happy once we got the win.”

That’s a pretty unselfish way to look at his goals. Joe’s pretty impressed by this.

Joe hears a lot about how the Bucs have a great locker room and outsiders note that the Bucs are always looking for a certain type of person to bring into the locker room.

Joe guesses that Bucky is one of those guys. Usually, running backs want to eat and have statistical goals in mind. If Bucky does, he certainly doesn’t let anyone in on that.

Aside from the fact he wants wins over stats.
