Cowboys news: Dallas’ new WR pair comment on their expected roles in the offense

Who will have Cowboys’ WR1 role in 2025? CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens shut down questions- Todd Brock, Cowboys Wire

The new duo is ready to work.

The two participated in the inaugural Kyler Murray Foundation Softball Game, a charity event held in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Saturday. And asked about which of them should be considered the Cowboys’ WR1, the new teammates wasted no time shutting down any pecking-order controversy.

“We both ones,” Lamb said.

“Yeah,” agreed Pickens.

“It ain’t no A/B, none of that,” Lamb continued. “You look over there, you see 1. You look over here, you see another 1. So do what you got to do with that.”

While Lamb finished top-10 in the NFL in targets, catches, and yards last year while frequently double-teamed and playing with a backup quarterback for half the season, Pickens was top-10 in yards per reception and is thought to be just scratching the surface of his sky-high potential.

On the field at the same time, they should indeed create a serious numbers problem for opposing secondaries.

Michael Irvin gives unexpected prediction for Cowboys win total in 2025- Randy Gurzi, Sports Illustrated

The playmaker has faith in the 2025 Dallas Cowboys.

That’s what Michael Irvin believes they will do. Irvin, who won three Super Bowls with Dallas, has always been overzealous when it comes to praising the ‘Boys. He again gives them their flowers while predicting their win total for 2025, but has a surprisingly realistic win total.

Irvin has Dallas struggling through the toughest stretch of their season, losing three in a row to the Eagles, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Detroit Lions. They rebound with a 3-1 stretch to close out his prediction, keeping them from completely falling apart.

In the end, they will go 12-5 according to the Hall of Famer.

Some of the games he expects to be easy wins might not be, but in the end, Irvin has them doing enough to get to the postseason.

Cowboys fans must temper expectations for this drafted rookie- Marcus Mosher, The Landry Hat

There are still question marks at the RB position, despite the Cowboys’ efforts to answer them.

In a recent article by Mike Clay of ESPN, he projected the stat lines of the top-25 running backs from the 2025 NFL Draft.

For Blue, he projected a modest stat line of 446 rushing yards and three touchdowns as a rookie. Here is a snippet of why he believes Blue could have a productive rookie season despite being a fifth-round selection:

“He’s a bit on the small size at 196 pounds and has had issues with holding onto the ball. However, the speed is there; he ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash. Blue will begin his career behind newly acquired veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, but neither have played well in recent seasons, so this depth chart is wide open. The lead back role in Dallas is there for the taking.”

Mike Clay, ESPN

Just 550 total yards (111 receiving yards projected) and just three touchdowns would be a disappointment for some Cowboys fans, as they are hoping Blue can be the best runner in the backfield right away. But that would actually be on the higher end of production based on recent fifth-round running backs over the last decade.

The Cowboys are very hopeful that Blue can become a full-time player in the backfield, but they aren’t going to rush him onto the field either. Tony Pollard had just 86 total carries during his rookie season, and it wasn’t until Year 3 that the Cowboys gave him an extended workload.

Cowboys 2025 schedule poses unique and significant challenges- Mario Herrera Jr, Inside The Star

Dallas is no stranger to primetime.

Red-Eye Mornings

In a league first, the Cowboys are slated to play four Thursday games in a single season, a scheduling anomaly that raises concerns about player recovery and performance.

Luckily, only two of those Thursday games are in primetime, the only exceptions being a Thanksgiving Day showdown at 3:30PM with Kansas City and a late-season noon game on Christmas Day at the Washington Commanders.

In all, the Cowboys will play six primetime games, causing red-eye mornings for some of us fans.

I work in a manufacturing setting where my shift starts at 5am. Do you know what these night games do to me the next day?

There isn’t enough coffee or energy drinks to get me coherently through the day. I can’t be the only fan to have this complaint.

Here are the six games that will make red-eye mornings for fans:

Why the Cowboys must sign either Micah Parsons or DaRon Bland before the season starts- Dan Rogers, Blogging The Boys

Get it done early, Jerry.

One might think that the urgency to get a deal done falls upon the front office since they don’t want him to hit the open market next offseason. There’s no chance the Cowboys will allow that to happen. However, unlike Dak Prescott a year ago, the team still has an ace up their sleeve to keep Parsons in Dallas another season. And that ace is the franchise tag.

If the Cowboys aren’t able to get a deal done this year, the team can choose to slap the franchise tag on him next offseason. This move would most likely serve as a placeholder to keep him off the market and allow them to mid July of next year to finalize a long-term deal. Parsons’ annual cost would be cheaper than his average annual cost of a new deal because the tag price is an average of the top five salaries of players at his position, versus a cost that will make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. His full tag price would count against the cap, whereas his first-year cap cost would be much cheaper if he signed a new deal.

We would all just as soon have them get the deal done and over with, but the franchise tag next offseason is certainly an option available to them. However, that route becomes far less appealing if there is another player who might also be a candidate for the franchise tag. And there could be if the team also chooses not to re-sign DaRon Bland.
