Dowman and Porter heading to U17 Euros

Max Dowman and Jack Porter have both been named in the England under-17s squad for the upcoming U17 UEFA European Championships in Albania.

The finals begin for England at 5pm BST on Tuesday, May 20 against Belgium, before the Young Lions take on Italy on Friday, May 23 (7.30pm BST) before their final group match against Czechia on Monday, May 26 (7.30pm BST).

The top two teams from the group will progress to the semi-finals which will be staged on Thursday, May 29, with England hoping to win the tournament for a third time, having previously done so in 2010 when Hale End product Benik Afobe was in the squad, and four years later when another Gunner in Tafari Moore was selected.

Dowman has scored three goals in 10 competitive appearances for England at under-17s level, while Porter has four such caps to his name, with two clean sheets.

At club level it’s been an excellent season for Dowman, who scored 19 goals and provided five assists in 23 games in all competitions, with 17 of those attacking returns coming in the last seven games of the U18 Premier League South season (14 goals, three assists).

As for Porter, he had a first senior call-up to celebrate in 2024/25, playing for us in the Carabao Cup against Bolton Wanderers and making 16 appearances in total across our academy sides.
