Why Buccaneers May Be Accidental Losers in Tush Push Ban

The NFL landscape could change dramatically over the next 48 hours. Not only is the league expected to vote on a revised playoff format moving forward, but one of the league's most controversial plays is up for debate as well.

With the Tush Push expected to be banned over the next couple of days, the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will have one of their biggest goal line plays scratched due to multiple teams being jealous of their success.

One team that isn't? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In an intriguing way, the Buccaneers may be unintended losers from a Tush Push ban.

Of all the teams that have faced off against the Eagles and their variation of the quarterback sneak, the Buccaneers have been one of the few teams not just with a plan, but legitimate success in stopping it.

A big part of that is Pro Bowl defensive tackle Vita Vea. The former first round pick has been a thorn in the Eagles side now for almost a decade, and the current Tush Push doesn't work when there are 300 pound tackles who can move as fast as Philly's offensive line.

With the play banned, it will require the Eagles, and other teams, to try and move to the outside on their short-yardage situations. While some defenses will see that as wins, the Buccaneers won't.

Tampa Bay is one of the few teams in the league who has had an answer to the Tush Push. With the play expected to be banned, that advantage is now gone for the Buccaneers.

And it makes them accidental and unintended losers from the decision.
