If it wasn't already clear, new Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris has brought an approach to the once proud franchise that has brought respectability back into the organization.
Taking over for a controversial owner in Dan Snyder, Harris has hired strong people to run the team, and has seen the fruit of those labors. Washington is in title contention after reaching the conference championship game last season.
It wasn't too long ago where things were drastically different for the Commanders.
Former general manager Scot McCloughan shared a story on D.C. radio this week about the time he was blocked from drafting All-Pro receiver Stefon Diggs by Snyder, despite being really interested in the player.
"I was told I couldn’t (draft Diggs) by the owner, he was sitting next to me when the scouts told me about him," the former GM said. "I wanted Diggs. He was the highest-rated guy on my board at the time."
Having meddlesome owners isn't unique in the NFL today. It does however, add a new wrinkle to the mountains of workplace culture violations and allegations under Snyder when he owned the team over the last decade.
It also shows how different Harris is at this point than his predecessor.
Washington's leadership team has brought respectability back to the organization. As they continue to build for a championship, McCloughan's story is a good reminder of how good the Commanders have it now.
And how bad it once was.
