How Naquan Jones & Da'Shawn Hand Hope to Bolster Chargers D-Line

Jones went into detail about what makes the group so appealing, adding his excitement for what he can add with his skillset within the system.

"I watched all the guys on the defensive line to see what they're able to do, see how they play so freely and be able to put the technique that Coach Elston is putting in, but also put their swag in it and make plays and they made some great plays," Jones said. "We watch film on them every day, so seeing that they're able to implement their style of play into what we're being taught here and are able to make plays is great. It's fun to see that.

"Nobody is really robotic," Jones added. "You're playing within the lines of the fundamentals and technique, but you're also able to put your spin on it to do what you need to do to make a play."

Same goes for Hand, who is ready to contribute in whatever way he can.

"I'm excited because No. 1, I'm a competitor," Hand said. "I'm brought in for a reason and for myself as a competitor and as an athlete, I think I add value to wherever I'm going.

"I just want to add value and just make any area they were struggling in, make it better if I can," Hand added.

The defensive line was one that turned many heads last season with their stellar play and a catalyst for the Chargers success in 2024.

Now, the new-look group with Hand and Jones want to take it a step further with a unit they believe has the potential to do just that.

"The excitement is very high," Elston said. "Love the group, we've added some great pieces… it's a very strong group, a hard-working group. Very, very excited about the group."

Elston later added: "I feel like this group has an even tighter knit of brotherhood, which is exciting. This to me a much more skilled group, so it's going to hopefully going to be better than last year."
