West Ham United need to make changes in the summer after a woeful season, and they are now being forced into one.

The Hammers hired and fired Julen Lopetegui within months, and replaced him with Graham Potter midway through the season, but performances and results have been dismal.

West Ham are currently 15th, and could finish as low as 17th this season, while their performances have been mostly dire and uninspired.

Potter is already under pressure, but he could use the summer to bring in reinforcements across all departments, and may turn to a familiar face.

West Ham target Chelsea goalkeeping coach

Lukasz Fabianski will depart West Ham this summer, but he is not the only goalkeeping figure who could leave the club.

Insider ExWHUemployee has reported that highly-rated goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero could be set to leave West Ham.

“Graham Potter is looking to add some additional staff to his backroom group going into the season,” he told The West Ham Way Patreon (19 May).

“One person whose place at the club is under threat, is that of goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero with a departure at the end of the season expected.

“Xavi is a popular figure around the place and had seen his responsibilities increased over time and was also heavily involved in the recruitment of the goalkeepers too, as well as coaching them.”

West Ham goalkeepers this season

It is claimed that Potter could now recruit Chelsea’s head of goalkeeping Ben Roberts to replace him, having recruited him during his time at Stamford Bridge. Roberts is still at Chelsea, working under Enzo Maresca.

West Ham to undergo goalkeeping revamp

West Ham have many problems in their team, but goalkeeping has been something of an issue, with both Fabianski and Alphonse Areola suffering from inconsistency.

With Fabianski leaving, a new goalkeeper could be targeted to provide competition for Areola, and a change in goalkeeping coach could help freshen that department up.

Roberts has been at Chelsea since 2022 as he joined alongside Potter, and also worked with the manager during his time at Brighton.

Chelsea have also had inconsistent goalkeepers in that time, and with Potter under pressure, he will hope that Roberts can make a positive impact at the London Stadium.
