The Cleveland Browns have a crowded quarterback room this offseason, with two veterans in 40-year-old Joe Flacco and the younger Kenny Pickett, and two rookies taken in this year's draft, third-rounder Dillon Gabriel and fifth-rounder Shedeur Sanders.
It's highly unlikely all four will make it out of camp, and someone will be the odd man (or men) out.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes that man will be the senior member of the room, Flacco.
"The Cleveland Browns brought back Joe Flacco as their veteran insurance quarterback for the 2025 season," Knox wrote. "However, there's a chance that he could be the odd signal-caller out by late August. The Browns won't have Deshaun Watson in 2025, after he suffered two consecutive Achilles tears. However, they traded for Kenny Pickett before drafting both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. The Browns probably won't carry four quarterbacks into the regular season, and the 40-year-old Flacco simply doesn't carry long-term value."
Hmm. We think we will take that bet.
Flacco returns to the Browns after a one-year, highly forgettable stint in Indianapolis, where he didn't have a bad season, but the team failed as a whole.
But he became a fan favorite in Cleveland during the final stretch of the 2023 season when he was signed to play after multiple QB injuries plagued the team. Flacco finished the season 4-1 for the Browns and led them to an unlikely postseason berth before being smashed by the upstart Houston Texans, 45-14.
On April 11, Flacco signed a one-year, $4.25 million deal to return to Cleveland. But if he can't win the starting job in camp and the team cuts him, they'll save nearly $3 million.
