The wages Man United will have to offer Viktor Gyokeres to win £55m transfer battle against Arsenal

Manchester United could go head-to-head with Arsenal for Viktor Gyokeres’ signature this summer.

A new star striker is at the very top of Manchester United’s shopping list for the summer transfer window and Viktor Gyokeres is one of a handful of targets being considered.

Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival as head coach, United have been heavily linked to Gyokeres after their fruitful partnership together at Sporting Lisbon.

In Portugal, Gyokeres scored 66 goals in 68 matches under Amorim. Amorim is keen to reunite with Gyokeres at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils face some fierce competition.

What wages Man United would have to pay Viktor Gyokeres

Earlier this month, Arsenal launched a bid for Gyokeres after weeks of being linked to the Swedish star.

While United can fend off Arsenal for Matheus Cunha, beating the Gunners to Gyokeres could prove more difficult.

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal’s offer for Gyokeres is worth between 65-70 million Euros (£55-£59m).

The North London outfit have offered a long-term contract until 2030 with an annual salary of £9-10 million on the table.

That equates to roughly £192,000 per week if Gyokeres made the move to The Emirates. If United want to beat the Gunners to his signature, they would likely have to match or even beat that salary offer.

How Viktor Gyokeres would rank vs Man United’s highest earners

Since the takeover, Ineos have been focused on trying to implement a solid wage structure at Manchester United.

Over the past decade, United’s wage bill has been extraordinarily high compared to the Premier League finishing positions.
