The Cincinnati Bengals are hosting former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Montravius Adams for a visit on Monday. This is Adams’ first visit since his release from the Steelers following the NFL Draft.
Adams has been with the team since 2021 and is entering the second year of a two-year contract. After the Steelers drafted Oregon’s Derrick Harmon and Iowa’s Yahya Black, both rookies look poised to make the roster.
Adams received playing time as the backup nose tackle to Keeanu Benton, and slotted in as a sub-package pass rusher at times. However, with Harmon in the fold as well as a slew of other younger and more veteran-focused players, the Steelers now have more of a focus on their run defense, with their starters carrying the torch as explosive, productive pass rushers.
Adams played in 11 games this season, getting surgery mid-season for a torn meniscus. He had just one sack and 14 tackles in his during his age-29 season. He only had one sack during his four years with the team, and became more an impact player with pressures than sacks.
Adams played 46 games over four years for the Steelers in total, and became one of the veterans that young players looked to when they came in the building. He simply was squeezed out by the depth and competition the Steelers had added to that room this offseason.
