There's a lot of excitement for the Jacksonville Jaguars as they get ready to enter the season, much of it due to them drafting two-way star Travis Hunter of the Colorado Buffaloes with the No. 2 pick.
The organization has gotten a look at Hunter in person, as it held rookie minicamp from May 9-11, but on Monday, the veterans and rookies hit the field for the first time for voluntary OTAs.
After the practice, Lawrence was asked about his first impressions of the Heisman Trophy winner, to which he had a glowing review.
“He’s got a lot of juice,” Lawrence said, “He can run all day, a lot of energy, I love it. ... He doesn't get tired, it seems like. You can’t have enough of that, and then as far as talent, it kind of speaks for itself. Ball skills, runs after the catch, he’s very explosive. Just didn’t realize how explosive he was in and out of cuts. You know he’s impressive to watch."
Of course, it's still not completely clear whether Hunter will be playing on both sides of the ball in the NFL, but after accumulating 96 receptions, 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, it's clear he would make a reliable target on offense.
That's great news for Lawrence, as Hunter could create a dynamic receiving duo with Brian Thomas Jr., who is coming off an impressive rookie year, appearing in 17 games with 87 receptions, 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns.
There's no doubt that Lawrence, who underwent shoulder surgery on Dec. 17, could use all the help he can get to help the Jaguars reach the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
At defensive back, Hunter's 36 tackles, 11 pass deflections, one forced fumble, one tackle for loss and four interceptions show he could instead help on the defensive side of the ball.
