Barcelona president Joan Laporta has given a fresh interview after seeing the team crowned champions of Spain and has been looking to the future.
The club chief offered a few updates on potential summer transfers and expects the club to dip into the transfer market to strengthen the squad.
“We have to value what we have, as Deco said,” he told TV3.
“We’ll resolve the renewals and then look at the additions. But perhaps to be more competitive we’ll need to. I know they’re considering additions across all lines.”
Before then, Barca want to renew the contracts of several players, with Laporta insisting Frenkie de Jong is the top priority right now.
“Frenkie is urgent because he has one year left on his contract, and we don’t want players in that situation. De Jong defines our style,” he added
“There have been professional circumstances for two months now, because De Jong wants to stay. We’ve talked about it and agreed on it. We want him to stay, and he must be key to this project. Frenkie, Raphinha, and Iñigo Martínez... we’re on the right track.
“Deco is working [on Raphinha]. He has a very good connection. Rapha feels very involved. We’ll reach an agreement because he wants to continue, and we want him to continue.”
One player who is being tipped to leave is Ansu Fati. Laporta says the youngster needs to play next season and is hopeful a solution can be found.
“We want him to play. He’s a man who’s loved in the dressing room, by many who come from La Masia like him,” he added.
“But he has to play. Let’s see if there’s a solution that’s good for him or for Barça.”
Laporta’s comments suggest Fati will indeed move on in the summer, with his No. 10 shirt reportedly already set to be taken on by Lamine Yamal.
