Transfer news LIVE!

The summer window does not open for another 12 days, but major deals are already being working on - and wrapped up - across Europe. Reports out of Portugal claim that Arsenal have agreed a £59million deal for Viktor Gyokeres as Mikel Arteta finally lands his desired striker.

Another big development involves Florian Wirtz, who has been tipped to be the biggest mover this summer. Manchester City have bowed out of the race amid fears of the spiralling costs, which they believe could be in excess of £250m, leaving Liverpool and Bayern Munich as his two most likely destinations. The Reds have already signed Jeremie Frimpong and are also working on a move for Milos Kerkez.

Elsewhere, Manchester United are expected to sign Matheus Cunha for £62.5m and have held talks with Liam Delap, who is also a target for Chelsea and Tottenham. Bryan Mbeumo has also been tipped for a big-money move, while Jurgen Klopp could be making a surprise return to management. Follow the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip live below!

Liverpool move into pole position for Wirtz

Liverpool are now leading the race to sign Florian Wirtz.

Manchester City on Monday bowed out of the race following face-to-face talks with the player’s father in the UK, over the spiralling costs of completing a deal.

It is claimed a deal for Wirtz, including fees and wages could cost in the region of €300m (£252m). The transfer fee alone is expected to be a British record £126m, and that, City believe, does not represent value for money.

So Liverpool are now favourites for Wirtz, who would be joining Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong at Anfield.

Bayern Munich are also long-term suitors for Wirtz and considered by some to be his most likely next destination.

Klopp set for sensational return to management

Interesting reports overnight from Italy claim Jurgen Klopp has agreed to become Roma manager this summer.

Klopp has been out of managerial work since leaving Liverpool last summer, but joined Red Bull as Head of Global Soccer in January.

The German was briefly linked with becoming Real Madrid manager to replace Carlo Ancelotti, but Xabi Alonso will succeed the Italian.

That leaves Klopp to make a surprising move to Italy. The report claims Klopp had been in talks with another unnamed club only for the deal to collapse, which saw him change path to Rome.

If true, Klopp will be tasked with guiding Roma to their first Serie A title since 2001.

Slot coy on Frimpong medical reports

Jeremie Frimpong has reportedly completed his Liverpool medical this evening.

That £29.5million move from Bayer Leverkusen now effectively done, he will become the club’s first signing of the summer.

Not that Arne Slot was willing to confirm that, when asked tonight.

He said: “What do you think?

“I think what we all know is the moment we announce it, that is the moment to talk about it in general. We haven’t announced anything so no need to talk about anyone.”

Arsenal face winger dilemma

There is uncertainty over Leandro Trossard’s future at Arsenal, as the club consider a move for Nico Williams.

Trossard is out of contract next summer, though there is the option to extend that deal until 2027.

The Telegraph report that a decision has not yet been made on Trossard’s long-term future, with Arsenal mulling a move for a new winger.

Williams is high on the wishlist, but would have to be one of Arsenal’s top earners and so the club may wait to see what happens with other players first.
