Arsenal secured their spot in next season’s Champions League over the weekend with a 1-0 win against Newcastle, however, it has still been a disappointing year with the Gunners failing to win a piece of silverware.
With that in mind, Arteta is keen to strengthen this summer, and reports have now linked him with a move for Chelsea’s Nkunku. According to The Sun, Arsenal are one of four Premier League clubs keeping an eye on Nkunku, whose future at Chelsea is uncertain.
The Frenchman is reportedly worth around £38m, and has made 42 appearances for Enzo Maresca’s side this season, scoring 14 goals and providing five assists. He has struggled to find consistent starting game time however, and now looks in line to leave in the summer.
Arsenal face competition to sign Nkunku
The Gunners aren’t the only named Premier League team to be keen on signing the Chelsea star. Man United are also linked with him, however it is understood that Nkunku wants to play Champions league football next season.
United could miss out on CL football if they fail to win the Europa League final against Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The report also states that Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also in the market for the Frenchman, with Chelsea ideally wanting to sell him to a team abroad, as they don’t want him moving to a rival such as Arsenal.
However, if Nkunku wanted a move specifically to the Emirates, Chelsea would likely grant his request and sell him to the Gunners. No bid has yet been made for the 27-year-old, and it is understood that Arsenal will prioritise the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko in their transfer hunt this summer.
