Anthony Gordon has had a mixed bag of a season, summed up by his recent meetings with Arsenal.

On Sunday his body language was poor, as was his touch in the build up to Declan Rice’s winner, but he was outstanding in both semi-finals against the Gunners, scoring in both legs to help us reach the League Cup final.

Speculation around his future has generally gone quiet since a potential move to Liverpool was rumoured last June, although new reports have emerged this week on the possibility of him moving on this summer.

Newcastle United are adamant that Anthony Gordon is going nowhere this summer, but it seems every player has a price in this day and age.

[The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2025/05/16/joining-arsenal-nonsense-for-alexander-isak-anthony-gordon/) report that it would take ‘ridiculous money’ to sign the England winger, while Mark Douglas at the i has also been discussing Gordon’s future after a below-par performance at the Emirates on Sunday.

He reports that both Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in the 24-year-old, stating that Newcastle value the former Everton talent at around £80m.

Newcastle are not in a vulnerable position this summer, with our PSR position healthy and several key players under contract for several years. However, the i report that player trading is still likely to keep us ‘ahead of the curve’ from a PSR position and boost our spending power.

This line from Douglas’ piece does add to any potential uncertainty around Gordon’s future, however. ‘In recruitment circles, whispers around his future continue to circulate even if the official response is that Newcastle don’t want to sell and the player doesn’t want to leave.’

Gordon hasn’t had a stinker of a season by any stretch, with nine goals and seven assists still a solid return considering his difficult summer and injury niggles in recent months.

However, considering the standards he set last term and the player’s own self belief, he hasn’t always done enough, whether that’s his lacklustre effort on Sunday, that stupid red card against Brighton or when he let the occasion get to him last October.

I do think some of the online criticism and reaction to his mistake at Arsenal has been over the top, especially as he played a huge role in getting us to the Carabao Cup final with superb performances in both semi-final legs against the Gunners.

But, with the stakes so high, we have to see a reaction from Gordon this weekend, where he’ll be up against his former club and more than likely a 39-year-old right-back in Ashley Young.
