Good morning Gang Green Nation! There are still a few big name free agents available, and some sources are speculating the New York Jets are a good fit. Names like Jadeveon Clowney, Amari Cooper and Keenan Allen are being tossed about. These were all really good players once who are now fading as age takes a toll. On a serious contender with a need these kinds of players make some sense. They can be excellent role players and solid veterans who can step into a starting role in a pinch and not be terrible. That’s a valuable role for a contender in a league where injuries are inevitable.
However, these players do not fit what the Jets are trying to accomplish this offseason. The Jets have been shedding 30+ year old veterans at a steady clip. They are clearly set on buiding through a youth movement. The Jets are not likely to be serious contenders this year, and players like Cooper, Clowney and Allen aren’t likely to change that. We’ll see what happens, but I doubt the Jets have much interest in these types of players.
