Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 5/20: Inadequate Invective, Unwanted Comebacks, and Good…

OBR Newswire Bloviation Header

Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

As a football website webdork, I think my readers must know my opinions about the Universe. Generally, I like it. While it's full of scary stuff like black holes and uber-hot planets like Venus, there's also water and places where things like humans can flourish. So, thumbs up from me.

I was going to save this for the Lift section that follows the Daily Bloviation and the links, but I think it's crucial to let you all know that the Universe will continue to exist for a while. This is good, because we live in it.

One of the cool things about the Universe is that it's set up perfectly for humans to do things not necessarily tied to survival, such as playing games. Namely, we play a somewhat violent game called football, which has provided a common (mostly bad) shared experience that ties our little geographic area together. Here's some news about that...

A FAIR COMPETITION, PROBABLY: Local analysts, even some of us here, have been pegging Kenny Pickett as the likely frontrunner for the starting quarterback gig for a while now. But Pickett and his biggest fan*, Brad Ward, shouldn't consider the QB's selection a done deal. The Browns are supposedly committed to a fair competition that gives all four quarterbacks a shot. The notion has led to some speculation about tandems and rotations and whatnot, and Lane Adkins offers his take on it here.

*: Just kidding, Brad.

THE DAILY SHEDEUR: Yesterday's big news in the World of Shedeur was that he signed a rookie contract. It's a four-year, $4.6 million deal, which is unheard of in the Webdork arena, but is apparently small potatoes for quarterbacks once considered likely to go in the top few picks in the draft.

You can read about it here. And here. Also, here. Plus, here, here, and here. In addition, there's the same information here, here, and here.

Options are what the OBR Daily Newswire is about, folks.

But you think that's it for the Daily Shedeur? Au contraire! We've also got some sage advice for the rookie from Seahawks QB Sam Darnold, some chatter from the player himself about his relationship with Dillon Gabriel, and people making fun of him for slow reaction times... somehow.

Meanwhile, the silly lawsuit filed because of Sanders' sharp drop in the draft is being posed as less silly, since they're now saying that it's a fight against racial discrimination. The fan who sued is asking for early discovery.

LET JOY BE UNCONFINED: The comeback is ON for one-time Browns quarterback who shall not be named, XXXXXXX XXXXXX (redacted). Apparently, XXXXXX is out of the walking boot required by his Achilles recovery and throwing passes to wide receivers David Bell and Jerry Jeudy. Of course, Shedeur is somehow involved, as his Dad posted something on social media about XXXXXXX. That makes this news relevant and exciting rather than somewhat annoying due to the fact that everyone else is trying to move on with their lives.

MORE FINGERPOINTING AND STUPIDITY: I long ago stopped trying to take an activist position on the Haslam Sports Group attempting to extract three XXXXXXX XXXXXX contracts worth of investment from the public for the elaborate JimmyWorld complex in Brook Park. Instead, I'm simply here to offer that we have local politicians acting like local politicians and NFL owners acting like NFL owners, humorously electing to stick to stereotypes rather than going off-script.

Today, the politicians are accusing the NFL owner of "greed and opportunism". Well, duh, he's an NFL owner. Come on, guys, you can do better than that. "Boondoggle" isn't bad, although I expect more florid language from professional invective-spewers. Ronayne needs to upgrade his game.

So, that's all somewhat amateurish invective-spewing that changes nothing. I have opinions, but I'll reserve them.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! We've got your usual bullet points of national listicles and other stuff that didn't fit into what I felt like ranting about today:

Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
