Scottie Scheffler cemented his status as the best golfer on the planet by winning the third major of his career at the PGA Championship. The PGA Tour used the victory to have some fun at the expense of the Carolina Panthers, but the post didn’t stay up for very long.

Scottie Scheffler has held the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings for 140 consecutive weeks, and he ensured the third-longest streak in the history of those standings will continue by winning the PGA Championship a year after he was arrested when the tournament headed to Louisville.

The 28-year-old has been a force to be reckoned with since earning his first victory on the PGA Tour at the WM Phoenix Open in 2022, two years after he secured his card. He got his first major victory when he secured a green jacket at The Masters a couple of months later, and now has 15 wins as a pro after earning the right to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy for the second time.

This year’s PGA Championship was held at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, a city that’s also home to the Carolina Panthers. If Scheffler is golf’s version of the Chiefs, that team is closer to the equivalent of Zach Johnson when you consider they haven’t really done anything of note since 2015 and have spent the past decade struggling to get their act together.

The PGA Tour decided to call attention to the issues the Panthers have dealt with over the past few years in the wake of Scheffler’s victory with a post that noted he’s racked up more wins since 2022 than the NFL franchise that’s only managed to get 14 of them in the past three seasons.

It was eventually deleted, but thankfully, the internet never forgets.

The PGA Tour trolled the Panthers on Instagram and X, but has since deleted the post.

Probably did not sit well with David Tepper, considering he’s a member at Quail Hollow and lives on the course. pic.twitter.com/fGoUMOrkwx

It’s not entirely clear why the post was taken down, but you do have to wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that Panthers owner David Tepper is a member at Quail Hollow, which currently boasts an initiation fee of $150,000.
