Ryan Clark labels Rgiii a ‘phony,’ bad teammate as online feud continues

Former Pittsburgh Steelers star Ryan Clark is continuing to make his thoughts on former teammate and ESPN colleague Robert Griffin III crystal clear.

Clark labeled RGIII a “phony” Monday night on Twitter as the two continue to go back and forth on social media over comments Griffin made about Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.

"You’re a phony bro. One of the worst teammates I ever had both on the field and in TV,“ Ryan Clark said.

Clark added that he “saved” Robert Griffin III on Monday Night Football.

“I urged people to let you be you. No matter how corny, how bad a teammate you were I had your back,” Clark said. “What did you do? Invite someone on your show you know I don’t fool with to ask questions about me, and then hit me weeks later to tell me you’re gonna challenge one of my takes!”

The whole beef started when Robert Griffin III said that he doesn’t care what Angel Reese insists, he can tell she hates Caitlin Clark.

“Guys, it’s so obvious that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark,” Griffin said in a video posted on Twitter. “I know what hatred looks like. Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. Not some basketball rivalry hate, either. Hate.”

Ryan Clark took exception to those comments and said that RGIII was trying to further a narrative that already exists with some fans of Caitlin Clark who side with her over Angel Reese because of her race.

He added that Robert Griffin III doesn’t know what Angel Reese deals with because RG3 is married to a white woman.

“The one thing we know about RG3 is he’s not having conversations at his home about what Black women have to endure in this country, about what young Black women and athletes like Angel Reese have had to deal with being on the opposite side of Caitlin Clark’s rise and ascension into stardom,” Ryan Clark said in a video on Twitter.

“Now, if you’re RG3, when was the last time within your household you’ve had a conversation about what she’s dealing with? You haven’t been able to do that, because in both of your marriages you’ve been married to white women.”

Robert Griffin III made it clear that he feels like Ryan Clark crossed a line with his comments by bringing his wife and family into the equation.

According to Griffin, he was making comments based on what he sees on the basketball court and the former Steelers star went way too far with his response.

“There’s a line you don’t cross in life and Ryan Clark sprinted past it,” RG3 posted on Twitter. “Let me be clear. It is wildly inappropriate, wrong and extremely low to weaponize and attack a person’s wife, marriage and their family because you disagree with a sports take.

“Disagree with me all you want. Challenge my take. But keep my family and wife out of it. That’s a boundary that should always be respected.Ryan Clark personally attacking me and my family personally over a sports opinion is cowardly, spineless, and weak.”

Ryan Clark and Robert Griffin III were teammates together with the Washington Commanders in 2014. They also worked together at ESPN from 2021-2024.
