The Washington Commanders got a personal look as to how dominant the Philadelphia Eagles use of the Tush Push has been over the last few seasons. The Burgundy and Gold were humiliated by the play in their 55-23 loss to the Eagles in the NFC Title game last season.
Following Philadelphia's run to the Super Bowl, Washington's top defensive star, All-Pro linebacker Frankie Luvu, has spoken out against the play, and hopes to see it banned at this point.
On NFL Network Monday, Luvu explained why/
"It’s kind of like a cheepo play. … That’s pretty much a scrum in rugby. That’s how I kind of look at it," Luvu said. "And we’ve got to have a scrum, too, on the other side. An the scrum is, we have a cadence where we all go at once.
"It’s not like you hard count and this and that, where now you’re getting us — or myself — jumping over the pile thinking that you’re going to snap the ball. That’s just my own personal opinion, and I’m going to leave it at that.”
The league is putting a revised rule change from the Packers to a vote that would effectively ban the Tush push moving into the 2025 season. Many national reporters believe that the play will be banned.
That means Luvu will get his wish, and the Commanders should get some comfort that their rivalry towards Philadelphia is evened out a bit.
