Brian Callahan Reveals His First Impression of Cam Ward

The Tennessee Titans cannot perform much worse than their three-win campaign last year. Ultimately, that poor performance was the key catalyst for the team making changes, like hiring Mike Borgonzi as the next general manager and swinging for quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick.

Most expect Ward to be the starting quarterback on opening day, as the incumbent, Will Levis, has not performed well thus far in his two-year career. He was also not drafted by the current regime in Tennessee, which makes him a bit more expendable.

Titans fans are excited about the prospect of a young quarterback, and Ward will look to join the ranks of the franchise's legendary signal-callers like Warren Moon and Steve McNair.

On Monday, Titans head coach Brian Callahan spoke to the media about the outlook of the team before phase 3 of the offseason program. He gave his initial thoughts on the rookie quarterback and how he performed through his first set of workouts.

"Ward has done a good job integrating himself," Callahan said. "Getting familiar with scheme, players -- so far really well done on his part."

It will certainly take time for Ward to learn the entire system, and growing pains are common, especially for young quarterbacks. This will likely be exacerbated by the excess of young players around him.

Fortunately, the Titans made moves for veteran wideouts like Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson before the draft, so Ward should have a few sets of sure hands to rely on. If he can continue to make good impressions on the coaching staff, they won't call it a quarterback competition for long.
