Chelsea Goalkeeper Freddy Bernal On Arsenal’s Radar

Freddy Bernal Transfer Updates

Freddy Bernal has been on the scouting books of several clubs recently. Arsenal have made a formal offer of £1.25 million for the talented youngster. The 16-year-old goalkeeper has been attracting interest from a variety of top clubs. However, Chelsea have decided to reject the bid immediately. The Blues have no intentions of letting the academy graduate from their books.

Freddy Bernal is the latest product of the esteemed institution Cobham academy. The youngster has already jumped through the ranks and made his debut for their U-18 team this season. Freddy has already been between the sticks for 5 matches, conceding 11 goals and keeping no clean sheets yet.

Freddy Bernal has already received the opportunity to train with the first team occasionally. The three lions have also called him up for national duty. England have named him in the squad for the upcoming U-17 European Championship. UEFA will organize the competition in Albania later this month.

Though Freddy Bernal represents England at the youth level, he also possesses Columbian heritage. The capable shot-stopper is eligible to play for Columbia’s national team in the future. However, the three lions would be very much wishing to have Freddy Bernal pledge his allegiance to them.

Arsenal Set Their Sights On Freddy Bernal

Freddy Bernal’s exploits certainly have not gone unnoticed amongst the scouts of other clubs. Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal are also believed to be admirers of the young Cobham graduate. The Gunners have already placed a formal offer for Freddy Bernal.

This would be a very smart piece of acquisition from Arsenal. Freddy Bernal at this moment looks like a very bright piece of investment. He has continuously punched above his weight, progressing through the academy ranks. Freddy has established himself as a regular fixture in Chelsea’s U-18 team sheet despite being just 16.

With Neto leaving, Arsenal themselves are looking to bring an influx of goalkeepers into their squad. The Gunners are also said to be linked with the talented Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia in this transfer window. The addition of Freddy Bernal to this would surely boost Arsenal’s goalkeeping position, providing both depth and future investment.

This would be an ideal opportunity for Freddy Bernal to be an intern under the massively experienced David Raya. However, Chelsea is not interested in entertaining this notion and has immediately refused all the offers. The Blues believe his complete development can take place in Cobham. Chelsea have faith in Freddy Bernal’s abilities and consider him to be a valuable asset going forward.

Author’s Opinion

Freddie Bernal already looks next in line on the list of elite talents coming out of Cobham. His amazing shot-stopping and calming composure has already placed several clubs on notice. Chelsea’s recent transfer model has been of acquiring talented youngsters from Europe and South America.

Thus, acquiring the talented Freddy Bernal from Chelsea would have always proven to be a difficult prospect. Chelsea will not let the player leave until they think they have got the correct valuation for their asset.

Arsenal have conducted their due diligence and concluded that they can consider Freddy Bernal a part of their future plans. Arsenal are reportedly favourites to acquire the signature of Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia as well. Freddy can definitely learn a lot from both the goalkeepers. Raya’s cross-collecting ability and his composure on the ball is in the top tier across Europe. Meanwhile, Joan Garcia has been arguably the best goalkeeper in La Liga this season. The sheer volume of shots saved by him is enormous.

Arsenal are evidently left light in this position with Neto leaving at the end of the season. Having both of these goalkeepers in their squad certainly strengthens their depth between the sticks. Raya can also afford to have some rest; a privilege he has not been able to afford this season.
