Cowboys' Parsons Questioned OTA Attendance Addressed by New Coach

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons vowed to show up to OTAs as the offseason launches into these voluntary workouts.

And on Monday, he was here.

What about Tuesday?

"He's been in and out,'' said new coach Brian Schottenheimer, who had a 1-on-1 lunch with Parsons on Monday but seems unconcerned about his attendance on Day 2, noting that he didn't yet "know'' if Parsons is here at The Star.

And more, "Schotty'' seems unconcerned.

The key here is that the coach voiced appreciation for Micah - who is of course in the mist of contract extension talks on his way to what might be a five-year, $200 million record-setting deal - is following in the footsteps of Dak Prescott, who last year opted not to hold out of training camp despite a similar circumstance.

What was Micah's vow going into this process?

"I'll still be around," he said. "For me, I've still gotta learn a playbook and I'm not so much of an iPad person where I can just keep learning, like I gotta walk through it. Maybe it's so much I might not be on the field part of it, but I'll be there learning, so that way I'm at least getting prepared to be ready for Week 1."

Parsons, so far this offseason, is doing and saying all the right things as one of the new leaders of the Schottenheimer's regime. His presence was not only requested by the coach but was also suggested by owner Jerry Jones, who indicated he'll feel much better about writing those gigantic checks if Micah invests himself here in every way.

Regardless of how things play out, when the Cowboys hit Oxnard to begin training camp, with or without a contract, Parsons will seemingly be there, as every team "leader" should be.

And maybe he will be back for lunch today.
