The Cleveland Browns are in the middle of arguably the most intriguing quarterback controversy in the league this offseason. This offseason, the Browns traded with the Philadelphia Eagles for quarterback Kenny Pickett, signed veteran Joe Flacco, and drafted two quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.
Shedeur Sanders, in particular, knows that he’ll have to put in the work if he wants to earn the starting job by the time Week One rolls around. He is embracing the mindset required to earn everything and recently spoke about how he feels about Gabriel, with whom he is jockeying for position on the depth chart.
“Everything’s been cool,” Sanders said, per SportsCasting. “He’s a cool person. I like how he handles situations, especially just the negative media that’s coming his way. I’m just happy he’s positive; he’s able to handle everything. We’re truly cool.”
Sanders also spoke about what the differences will be for him at the NFL level, and admitted that he doesn’t really have any idea what to expect.
“I’m not sure,” says Sanders. “I haven’t played a snap yet. I’m excited to see myself.”
Sanders also touched on his relationship with Tom Brady, and revealed that since being drafted, he’s been focusing on his relationships with the people in the Browns’ facility with him.
“I haven’t talked to him since the draft,” Sanders said of Brady. “I’ve mainly just been focusing on the team, everybody that’s currently around me, the coaches on the team. I haven’t really been on my phone much or talking to many people.
“I really don’t even talk to my family. It’s one of those situations where I just have to lock in, stay focused on what’s present now.”
