Adam Schefter revealed hard truth about Brock Purdy that'll anger 49ers fans

The 49ers paid Brock Purdy and needed to, but Adam Schefter suggested no other teams around the league would have done that.

Within San Francisco 49ers circles, quarterback Brock Purdy's new five-year, $265 million contract extension is both a necessity and a bargain.

Outside of the Niners, fans and pundits of other squads are probably laughing at San Francisco's financial commitment to the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

It falls in line with the argument against Purdy that dates back to his rookie season: a not-great signal-caller who has been propped up by a cast of offensive all-stars and made to look good, thanks to head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense.

Mere days after news of Purdy's extension went public, ESPN's Adam Schefter shared insight from around the league that adds to the latter sentiment.

Speaking on ESPN's UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio, Schefter detailed how other teams across the NFL feel about Purdy, particularly with how he'd be valued prior to inking the eventual extension received in May.

According to Schefter, who asked if there'd be any interest in trying to trade for the quarterback if negotiations went south between Purdy and San Francisco, there wouldn't have been any serious takers.

"I remember talking to teams and just being like, 'Hey,' as they were trying to solve their quarterback needs, 'any interest in Brock Purdy?,'" Schefter explained. "And they were like, 'Great player, but he’s a great player forthem.' So they didn’t see it that way. So that was the opinion of other teams."

This might be a painful truth for 49ers fans to acknowledge. Other teams simply don't value Purdy like the Niners do, which could lead to sentiments about his new deal being a massive reach and overpayment.

It won't take Niners fans long to find (or hear) critical reactions to the extension.

However, on the flip side, it might have actually worked in San Francisco's favor. The 49ers likely knew there wouldn't be a trade market for Purdy, so the best chance he'd get for a hefty deal would be with the team that drafted him.

And credit the Niners for at least rewarding him for being a "great player for them."
