The preseason ‘home-opener’ will take place on Saturday, Aug. 16, and will kickoff from Empower Field at Mile High at 7:30 p.m. local time. It will be televised on NFL Network and KUSA-Ch. 9 for the people wanting to watch in-market, and will be on the airwaves on the 94.1 FM and 850 AM channels.
The Broncos also announced that there will be a joint practice with Arizona earlier in the week on Thursday the 14th. More details about that practice and training camp will be announced at a later date, per the club.
These two teams met in the final week of the preseason last year, a game in which Denver won 38-12 thanks to 251 yards and two touchdowns from Zach Wilson. The former Broncos backup even had a rushing touchdown as the orange and blue jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
The home preseason games are usually a great opportunity for fans to familiarize themselves with Denver’s draft picks and some of the other new faces acquired in the offseason, and an opportunity to do so at a lower ticket price if they want to watch the game at the stadium. With big names like Jahdae Barron and RJ Harvey suiting up for the orange and blue for the first time in this game, it will be a great look at two of Sean Payton’s newest weapons.
This could be one of two possible joint practices for Denver, as it was reported earlier in the spring that the Broncos were working on getting a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers organized. Denver heads to the Bay Area the weekend before Arizona comes to town to kick off the preseason.
This preseason game against Arizona will also give football fans in Denver a chance to see some great young talent on Arizona’s side of the ball. With draft picks on the line like Walter Nolen and Jordan Burch and talents in the secondary such as Will Johnson, August 16 will be a great chance to see some young fireworks for both squads at Empower Field.
The Broncos full regular season schedule was announced last week, with the home opener being in Week 1 on Sunday, Sept. 7, when No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans come to town.
