Jamie Carragher explains "why Liverpool" won the Premier League over Arsenal

Liverpool strolled to the Premier League title despite Arsenal boasting the better defence and Jamie Carragher has explained why.

On Monday, the Reds conceded three goals which took them to 40 goals conceded in the Premier League this season. Only Arsenal (33) conceded fewer but their failure to develop an elite attack left them scrambling every week in the title race.

Whereas Liverpool averaged 2.2 goals per game this season, the Gunners have been ineffective in the attack, scoring just 1.81 goals per game.

Of course, Bukayo Saka’s injury in December put a dent in Mikel Arteta’s attacking plans but beyond the English international, Arsenal dont’ have any intimidating attackers.

Liverpool broke another record on Monday despite the 3-2 defeat to Brighton on the south coast and Jamie Carragher says it’s just another factor that aided their Premier League title challenge.

Jamie Carragher says Liverpool attacking influence is “why the’re champions”

While Liverpool conceded their 40th league goal of the season on Monday, the Reds also scored two goals – the 31st time they’ve done so this season which is a new Premier League record.

Live on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher then said that Liverpool “don’t just have goal scorers, they create a lot of chances, that’s why Liverpool have won the league.”

Arsenal, while marginally defensively superior, just don’t measure up to Liverpool’s attacking qualities with 18 goals fewer than the Champions this season.

Carragher continued: “Defensively, Arsenal are the better team, but in terms of goals and chances they created, they still should’ve scored three tonight at least.

“I think that’s now 31 games out of 37 they’ve scored two or more in a Premier League game, which is a record in the Premier League, which is pretty outstanding. That’s why [they’re champions].”

Liverpool are trying to get even better in attack – Premier League teams beware

Salah alone has 33 goals and 23 assists for Liverpool this season and if Arne Slot can replace outgoing attackers this season with more quality, the Reds could be electric next term.

Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jot have all been linked with summer exits. In fact, Salah and Cody Gakpo are the only two forwards that seem guaranteed to be at the club when next season starts.

Reports have heavily linked Liverpool with Florian Wirtz in the last two weeks and while it remains to be seen how that develops, that’s the type of transfer that would immediately raise the stakes at the AXA Training Centre.
