Arsenal are preparing to offer Leandro Trossard a new contract during the off-season despite interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Mikel Arteta values the 30-year-old as an important squad player.
However, they are aiming to sign at least one new forward to improve their starting XI which would see Trossard’s role reduced to an impact player.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider Arsenal want to sign a “special” forward after what has been another frustrating season in North London.
Arteta is believed to have grown frustrated with the Gunners’ lack of a consistent threat in recent months and wants to upgrade on the likes of Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli.
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Martinelli could be allowed to leave Arsenal as part of a potential overhaul of their forward options.

Arsenal make Leandro Trossard offer as replacement mooted
Football Insider revealed on 10 May that Arsenal are in talks with Trossard over a four-year contract as he enters the final year of his current deal.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has explained that the new deal will not come with any guarantees over his place in the squad.
“Arteta sees Trossard as a valuable part of his squad,” he told Football Insider.
“They’re going to give him a new contract to keep him around because he is a good squad player.
“You can’t knock him, he’s a good technical player and he’s shown in his time at Arsenal that he’s willing to work hard and give everything he’s got.
“He can come off the bench and give you a bit of energy and desire late in games.
“I think that will be his role next season, not like this year where he’s started a lot of games.
“The injuries haven’t helped of course, but Arsenal want to improve their attacking options in the window.
“Arteta wants a difference-maker, and it looks like they’re going to be working on signing at least one forward, so that raises questions about the current choices.
“They want to keep Trossard at the club because of what he can bring to the squad, but if they can sign the attackers they want, he’ll become more of a backup.”

Rafael Leao update emerges after Gabriel Martinelli claim
As part of their ambitious plans for the summer, the Gunners have identified a number of attacking options who would improve their squad.
Brown told Football Insider on 18 May that Arsenal want to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan and will step up their interest if Martinelli is sold.
Leao has been identified as a potential option, and scouts have been keeping an eye on his progress in Milan since before the start of the season, with work ongoing.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed that Arsenal planned to sign a “superstar” winger in January, but they were unable to get a deal over the line.
