Drake Maye enters his pivotal sophomore season for the New England Patriots with proven voices around him.
Head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels return to New England with hopes of restoring their success in other roles. Despite getting fired from their last NFL stops, ESPN’s Peter Schrager believes that the two-reinvigorated coaches could be the best voices to elevate the Patriots franchise quarterback.
“These guys have been in the lab working the last 12 months with some time to do it on their own pace,” Schrager said on [“NFL Live”](https://x.com/ESPNNFL/status/1924935957838455238) Tuesday. “They’re both going to be shot out of a cannon.”
Unlike years of unstable coaching when the Patriots tried to develop previous first-round quarterback Mac Jones, Maye is in a far better start [for a Year 2 jump](https://nesn.com/2025/05/how-drake-maye-impressed-patriots-veteran-linebacker/) with New England.
“Drake Maye is going to be the greatest recipient of the two men who have devoted their entire football lives coaching football, had that ripped away from them and are now being put together to work with this young quarterback,” Schrager added. “I can’t imagine a better situation for Drake Maye.”
