Author of Aaron Rodgers book predicts when QB will sign with Steelers

There have been plenty of rumors connecting Aaron Rodgers to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason after the quarterback and the New York Jets parted ways.

But no agreement has been reached as June fast approaches.

The author of “Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers, however, has a theory about why Rodgers has yet to sign with Pittsburgh.

“I just think verbally, behind the scenes, not that he guaranteed it, but he’s told (the Steelers), ‘Listen, I’m gonna play for you. I just don’t want to go there and then miss part of mandatory minicamp because of my personal issues,’” Ian O’Connor said during a recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan. “I’m pretty sure they’re gonna be solved by the end of May, at least in my satisfaction where I can give you my all.’ So that’s where I think it is.”

O’Connor added he believes Rodgers will be in a Steelers uniform by June 10.

Rodgers not being part of mandatory minicamp isn’t new. The 41-year-old missed it last year while with the Jets, but did attend OTAs.

Rodgers told “The Pat McAfee Show” in April that he was up front with every team he spoke to about his situation and that he wasn’t “holding anyone hostage,” and didn’t rule out retiring.

“To make a commitment to a team is a big thing. I’m open to anything and attached to nothing,” he said. “So yeah, retirement still could be a possibility. But right now my focus has been and will continue to be on my personal life.”
