When the 2024 season ended, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was standing on the NFL mountaintop. The Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, and the former Alabama standout had won the Most Valuable Player Award for the NFL championship game.
Those accomplishments do not affect the desire to do what is required to make the climb again, Hurts said on Tuesday.
“Nothing’s changed in terms of the drive and the effort and the focus that I know it takes to go out there and do what I’m asked to do,” Hurts said. “There are a lot of things externally that you really can’t control. For me, I’ve just always focused inward on holding myself accountable to try and do my best. And so there may be external perspectives on different things. Ultimately, it’s all subjective. I try and do the objective – the undeniable, the winning -- but also just focusing on things I can control and taking it a day at a time. And so everything that’s been accomplished to this point is great, but there’s a desire to achieve more – and it’s only intensified.”
In the offseason, Hurts got married, attended the Time 100 Gala after being among the magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025 and stepped out into the fashion world at the Met Gala.
“The main thing is always the main thing,” Hurts said about his offseason. “You only know what you see, of course. The routine has always been the routine whether we play into February or not. And so you set goals to try to accomplish those things in that moment and in that month. Ultimately, the process is always ongoing. It’s always, ‘How can I get better? How can I improve and carry it out?’
“So I’m really excited about that. It’s been exciting just to be here and be able to spend time with the coaches and get some timing down and get some reps and get some things under our wing so we can just continue to build that type of rapport we need and figure out what the iteration of this team will be this season.”
The Eagles are approaching the transition to Phase 3 of the NFL’s offseason process. In Phase 3 (or Organized Team Activities), the offseason workouts ramp up to non-contact 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills on the field.
Philadelphia will open its OTAs on May 28 and will hold a one-day minicamp – the only offseason practice where attendance is not voluntary – on June 10.
Hurts’ offseason also has included meeting with Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan. Hurts became an ambassador for Jordan Brand apparel and equipment in 2023, and the company launched an ad campaign “Love, Hurts” after the Super Bowl victory.
“It would be unwise of me not to seek knowledge from him and lean on someone like that,” Hurts said, “so that’s something I value a lot. One of the biggest things is taking it a day at a time. We have these goals, and you have these big dreams of what you want to accomplish. But ultimately, it’s a journey, so take it day-by-day. Like I said earlier, being able to decode, detect and correct and pretty much just refine the things that I need to so that I can be at my best when needed.”
