It promises to be another busy summer transfer window at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have battled hard throughout the campaign and whether they manage to qualify for the Champions League or not, there’s expected to be plenty of incomings, as well as outgoings.
It’s been par for the course since Todd Boehly and co. arrived at the capital club, with over £1billion having been spent since taking over from Roman Abramovich. And with such a heavy expenditure, Chelsea have five forgotten men on their books who could face an uncertain future at the club.
David Datro Fofana
One of the earliest signings of the Boehly era, joining from Norwegian outfit Molde. He made his debut in January 2023, but has since been sent out on three different loans. Spells with Union Berlin (Germany), Burnley (England) and Goztepe (Turkey) haven’t rendered much success, with Fofana’s future likely to lie away from Chelsea.
Carney Chukwuemeka
A transfer that offered plenty of promise when Carney Chukwuemeka put pen to paper on a six-year contract with the west London outfit from Aston Villa. However, a knee injury at the beginning of the 2023/24 season ruled him out for the first half of the campaign, with Chukwuemeka unable to regain his spot in the Chelsea XI. A loan move to Borussia Dortmund followed in January 2025, with a decision on a potential permanent transfer to the Bundesliga outfit set to be made in the summer.
Lesley Ugochukwu
Unlike the others on this list, Lesley Ugochukwu has spent the last 12 months playing in the Premier League. Joining the club as part of a £23million deal, Ugochukwu played a bit-part role in the squad for the 2023/24 season, but was sent out on loan to Southampton for the current season. Notching up 30 appearances for the relegated side across all competitions, the future remains uncertain for the midfielder upon his Stamford Bridge return.
Deivid Washington
One of the more peculiar transfers of the Boehly era, Deivid Washington originally joined Chelsea as an 18-year-old, making his Premier League debut in October 2023. But it proved just one of three senior appearances for the teenager, who has since been shipped back to former club Santos as part of a loan move.
Djordje Petrovic
There had been some Chelsea fans urging for Djordje Petrovic to be named the Blues’ No.1 goalkeeper following the previous campaign, having impressed at times in place of Robert Sanchez. But following the arrival of Filip Jorgensen, Petrovic was deemed surplus to requirements and loaned out to sister club Strasbourg. Ironically, he’s shone for the Ligue 1 outfit and is one of the few Boehly signings who could command a decent transfer fee this summer.
