Viktor Gyokeres' Arsenal transfer deadline set amid Bryan Mbeumo 'discussions'

Arsenal are preparing for their final game of the Premier League season with relegated side Southampton on the south coast.

It is another game Mikel Arteta and Co cannot afford to lose after Manchester City closed the gap to just three points. Pep Guardiola's side beat Bournemouth 3-0 on Tuesday night and will play Fulham at Craven Cottage on the final day.

With the Gunners set to be busy when the summer transfer window reopens on June 1, football.london has taken a look at the latest headlines from in and around the Emirates Stadium.

Viktor Gyokeres update

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal are set to officialise a deal for Sporting Clube de Portugal star Viktor Gyokeres next week. The Swede has overtaken RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, becoming a priority signing for Mikel Arteta this summer.

The report states that fresh talks are scheduled to take place after the Portuguese Cup final on May 25, with a view to finalising a move. Meanwhile, Monday’s O Jogo front page featured Gyokeres with the headline: 'Gyokeres on his way to Arsenal for €70 million (£59m)'

During Sporting's title celebrations on Saturday, teammate Pedro Goncalves hinted at Gyokeres' exit.

football.london says: "Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Gyokeres and have followed his development closely. His stock is high, but the club has already done the hardest part - reportedly convincing the striker to join despite interest from many other clubs.

"They now appear close to sealing a deal, which would send a strong message about their intent and ambition for trophies next season after a disappointing campaign. This season was marked by injuries to their strikers, which ultimately cost them the Premier League title. They will be determined to avoid a repeat at all costs.

Bryan Mbeumo 'discussions'

The Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has been subject of internal discussions from Arsenal, claims Give Me Sport. It's reported the 25-year-old will enter the summer transfer window with a £60million price tag attached to him.

Having scored 19 Premier League goals this season, it is no surprise his stock is high heading into the summer. Meanwhile, Bees boss Thomas Frank has not ruled out the possibility of the Cameroon international being sold. "If the right price - and that’s going to be expensive - is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open to it,” Frank told Sky Sports.

"I lost Neal Maupay, Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney as three key strikers that were 25 goals plus. Every season we replace the goals with other players so I am confident that we can do it again."

football.london says: "Mbeumo's ability to play both as a winger and a striker is an appealing asset for Arsenal as they look to strengthen their attack next season. Additionally, the Cameroon international has proven himself to be a consistent goal scorer in the top-flight while his pressing and intensity are qualities that would greatly benefit Arsenal’s style of play."
