Arsenal ready to go again

arsenal fc

This has been a disappointing season as far as Arsenal are concerned, Despite reaching the semi-fila in two cup competitions and a third successive second place finish in the Premier League, there has been no silverware yet again.

And, whilst there are a number of mitigating factors – a long series of injuries to key players, and six red cards – some of the problems have been of the club’s own making, and the lack of depth in the squad has become evident.

However, Mikel Arteta has sounded a defiant note, saying that the club and the players, once they have had a suitable rest, will be ready to go again at the start of next season, especially as qualification for the Champions League has now been secured again.

At the same time, he has thrown down the gauntlet to the club’s board, telling them to do what is needed to reinforce the squad with quality replacements during the transfer window.

And, for all the talk of a busy summer, Arsenal supporters will want to see that backed up with action now. In particular, new Sporting Director Andrea Berta will come under increasing pressure to deliver in terms of new faces through the door in the coming weeks.

Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
