Newcastle Slap £80M Price Tag On "Unbelievable" Player As Chelsea And Arsenal Circle

Newcastle United will hold out for a fee in the region of £80m for Anthony Gordon if they receive bids this summer, according to reports.

The England international was outstanding last season, leading to captain Bruno Guimaraes describing his performances as “unbelievable” back in March last year, but he has struggled to replicate that form since then.

However, theI Paper claim that the Magpies are not in a position where they need to sell players so they will stand firm on Gordon’s asking price.

The club are not under pressure to raise funds in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, although that doesn’t mean that players like Gordon will stay if a team matches their valuation.

2 Premier League rivals are “interested” in the Newcastle winger

Liverpool were heavily linked with the forward last summer, before he ultimately signed a new contract with Newcastle back in October, keeping him at St James’ Park until the summer of 2030.

Even so, there are still believed to be other teams keeping an eye on Gordon‘s situation, The I Paper report that both Chelsea and Arsenal are “understood to be interested.”

Comparing Gordon’s stats from this season to last

While the 24-year-old has received plenty of criticism for his displays in recent months, his return of 9 goals and 7 assists in 32 starts isn’t that bad.

It is definitely a step down on 2023/24 when Gordon found the back of the net 12 times and contributed 16 assists in 45 starts.

However, if you compare the two seasons based purely on goal involvements when he starts for Newcastle, his average is 1 in every 2 games this season compared to 1 in every 1.6 matches last campaign. For that reason, it is not a surprise that he is still on the radar of other clubs.
