Yamal’s camp ask Barca to make wonderkid club’s highest-paid player

Barcelona are hoping to announce a new long-term contract for Lamine Yamal this summer, with president Joan Laporta having already admitted it’s not quite done yet.

The president has also claimed “we have to give him special treatment” and that Yamal’s salary “has to be in line with his performances, not his age.”

According to Cope’s Victor Navarro, Yamal’s agents have “asked him to be the highest paid on the staff” and say he deserves to be the club’s top earner.

The argument is that he’s the best because he creates the most, offers something different and is the most “sought after for interviews.” There’s also the sense he will help the club the most financially - particularly after he takes over the No. 10 shirt.

Navarro says Barca understand this but thinks the club are wary of repeating mistakes of the past.

Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie De Jong are the team’s current highest earners, although it’s been claimed the Dutchman could take a pay cut if he renews this summer.
